Chris came to us as a very scared and angry kindergartener. When asked how she felt about being here she said she was very sad. She was diagnosed with language based processing problems and had been receiving services since she was 3 years old.
The school tested Chris, and said she was regressing; even though she was getting services daily in school, there was no progress. Mom's expectation for Chris's time here was just to learn to say the alphabet.
During the initial diagnostic testing, Chris would take the pencil and carve the paper in frustration. Now, Chris can tell you all the letters of the alphabet out of order, match them up with their correct sound, recognize blends, and also tell you the names of numbers out of order. She listens to and follows directions, and is a happy, pleasant child. When you ask her now, "How do you like coming to Huntington?" She answers: "I really like it, I learned the alphabet and numbers, I'm learning some words, and someday I will learn to write."
